9 Frame Analysis - David McConnell

Art of the Title - 'Airplane' (Abrahams, Zucker, Zucker, 1980)

My 9 frames

This shot shows the production company name, the sky at night and the moon. This
creates and eerie atmosphere. The text is bold so it stands out against the dark
background

This shot shows the tail as it cuts through the clouds. This is reminiscent of the
Jaws films, and is used to create suspense. However, this serious theme is lost
as we see the plane circling in unrealistic, comedic circles

This shot shows the title. It has a shadow to emphasis the bold letters

This shot shows one of the actors names. They would have been used to attract
more people to watch the film

This shot shows another actors name in front of a busy street. It uses the same
font as before to continue the theme

This shot shows a typical family getting out of a car with further titles over the
image. This was used to introduce pivotal characters and to credit important people

This shot shows the three directors names in front of a plane. They were the most
important people in this film so there names went last

This shot shows some of the crew directing the plane. This is a brief glimpse into
the comedy that will follow

This shot shows a plane crashing through a window with people running away. This
is unexpected and creates a light hearted feeling around a serious accident

My A3 sheet timeline

This timeline gives detail on the sound, images and words that appear in the opening. Each has the time that they appear
